Welcome to the Cell Biology and Electron Microscopy Website!
We explore the fascinating world of cell organelles. Our research focuses on the biology of mitochondria and chloroplasts. Both types of energy-converting organelles have a complex architecture of specialized membranes and possess their own genetic systems. We study their biogenesis and inheritance using state-of-the-art genetic and imaging methods. ...more
We are committed to sharing our fascination for cell biology with our students. Our courses include lectures on basic cell biology, practical courses on methods of cell biology, advanced modules on cell organelles and cell dynamics, and courses in the elite program Biological Physics. ...more
The Electron Microscopy Laboratory is affiliated with the Institute of Cell Biology. It serves several groups within the life sciences of the University of Bayreuth and has a number of active collaborations with external research groups. The laboratory is part of the DFG-funded research consortium "Biogenesis of thylakoid membranes: Spatiotemporal organization of photosynthetic protein complex assembly" (FOR 2092). ...more
